With the rest of the sports finishing the tournament games this week, the recreational sports are almost done this semester.
But, unless you are a graduating senior, don’t shed any tears. There will be plenty of recreational sports to compete in next semester.
One cannot play in more than two teams of the same sport but they can play in multiple different recreational or/and competitive sports. The recreational sports department offers seven different sports the students can compete in.
1. Dodgeball – Mixed: If you’re up for some intense competition and can concentrate on two things at once, this is the sport for you. It’s set up with two 20-minute halves with teams of seven. The recreational sports department requires that there must be a member of the opposite gender on the court at all times.
2. Flag Football – Men/Women: Though this is not the sport one can usually “get their flirt on” with other teammates, flag football is a great sport to show off great passing, blocking and teamwork skills. It’s also set up with two 20-minute halves with teams of seven.
3. Racquetball Singles: My brother told me that racquetball is the only sport where you can be watching the ball in front of you and get hit by that same ball from behind.
4. Soccer – Mixed: My personal favorite, soccer is a combination of sprinting, ball control and great teamwork. It’s set up with two 20-minute halves with 11 people on the field.
5. Softball – Coed/Men: For all those Brian Regan fans, “Good eye, Brian!” can be heard at many games. Softball consists of teams of 10 players on the field and seven innings or 50 minutes.
6. Ultimate Frisbee – Mixed: Who would have thought throwing a Frisbee around would be a sport? However, Ultimate Frisbee is a thrilling non-contact sport. The teams consist of seven players on the field and 20-minute halves.
7. Grass Volleyball – Mixed: Tired of sand getting in between your toes while you play sand volleyball? Well then, grass volleyball is just for you. It’s completely sand free, try to avoid the worms though. Grass volleyball is played to 25. If time is running out, the third game will be played to 15.
So wipe those tears from losing in the tournament and get ready to start a fresh season next semester.
