Cramerica triumphs

Cramerica’s victory over the Grasshoppers was determined before the disk was even thrown at the ultimate Frisbee game last Tuesday.

Years of playing with each other on recreational teams made Cramerica’s passing unstoppable. The team played man-to-man defense and were able to stop nearly all of the the Grasshoppers' attempts, ending the game at 14-4.

Daniel Grant, member of the Cramerica team, seemed confident about the end results during half time.

"We're having a good time and we're playing well," said Grant.

His main concern was about the strong wind that kept affecting their throws throughout the evening. But he added that it was an equal disadvantage for both teams, keeping the game fair.

Cramerica dominated in the first half, allowing the Grasshoppers to score only one point.

The Grasshoppers fought hard in the second half, scoring three more points. But their efforts just weren’t enough to make much of a dent in Cramerica’s triumph.

“They had great team work and obviously have played together,” said Brady Anderson, member of the Grasshopper team.

Anderson played in two soccer games prior to the ultimate Frisbee game and still managed to score/assist in half of the Grasshopper’s points. He expressed that he wished he had more energy throughout the game.

Anderson mentioned that his team could work more on being patient during the game. The players would see one of the other team coming to block them and would panic, throwing the disk to the nearest teammate. Many times the other teammate would be heavily guarded by a Cramerica teammate, resulting in a turnover and, usually, another score.

All in all, the teams expressed that they enjoyed playing in the ultimate Frisbee game.
“I love doing the long and crazy catches, when you have to dive for them after running really long and hard,” Anderson said.

Two Games This Week

Because all of the recreational games were canceled last Tuesday, (due to the huge wind storm) the teams that were canceled will be scheduled twice this week. Way to go BYU-Idaho for being on the ball.

Turtleheads plow their way through the field

Though there were no padding, helmets or bone crunching tackles, Wednesday night, the flag football game between the Turtleheads and the Pass-along-grass came down to the same things that win or loose any football game. The Pass-along-grass were down some subs so conditioning was a huge factor. The game winning aspects in any football game are big plays, turnovers, and a strong defense. And in this match-up the Turtlehead came out on top in all 3 categories.

The game started with 2 quick touchdowns by the Turtleheads whose offense seemed to be in sync on every play. The Pass-along-grass started to get an offense going with some trickery. They gained a few yards with a direct snap to the running back who was in motion and left the entire Turtlehead defense standing on their heals wondering what had just happened. However with this trickery came some confusion that led to a Turtlehead interception and touchdown by Daren Peterson.

During half-time, Pass-along-grass expressed that they needed to change things up more. They needed to score more, not let the other team get plays where they get 6 points, and on a more serious note, stop the penetration up the middle by the Turtleheads.

The second half was all Turtlehead. After a few changes of possession the Pass-along-grass turned away from trickery to a simple passing game and made it to the other end of the field. But the Turtleheads showed their unstoppable defense with Daren Peterson’s quick blitzes putting pressure on the quarterback; the Pass-along-grass team was not able to score.

The next possession the Turtleheads scored with a full field hail mary and walked away with a 25-0 victory.

After the game, the Turtlehead players Matthew Taylor, and Robert Harvey they named Darren Peterson their “MDP” (Most Darren Peterson)

Robert Harvey said a big part of their victory was that they were all “passing well, running well and their defense stopped them (Pass-along-grass) all.”

(Unfortunately my camera died before I could take any pictures of the game. There were, however, a lot of great plays.)

No more write-ons

The recreational sports managers announced that they are no longer accepting write-ons at the games (ward teams are excluded). This means that if a caption finds that he doesn't have enough players show the game, he or she cannot ask a friend to come play that night. The roster has to be made by Thursday night before the next week in order to ensure the players to play on the team.
